Godsmack at Rockstar Uproar

By Godsmack

It's 1998 and the WWF is blasting Keep Away at all times! Hell yes! What boy or young man……… or grown man for that matter doesn't like to indulge on some guys beating the living hell out of each other? Godsmack was the soundtrack for this anger. This was the time for them to break through.

Now days it's a different story. It's been 5 albums, over 10 years of playing together, and it seems that while the music has went from (nu)metal to hard rock the stage performance hasn't really changed. Mainly the drum solo. 1t started off as some bongos vs. drums but as they got bigger the drum sets got bigger and then they decided to choreograph the drum solo(s). Now having a drum solo that is 10 minutes long during a 70-90 minute set is a cool thing. Well, it is a cool thing if it is changed up. But this is where I believe this old dog has not learned new tricks. It's been the same drum solo for the last going on 5-6 years if not longer. And…and this is not a 70-90 minute set. This is direct opener for Shinedown on Rockstar Uproar Festival.

I'm not taking away from them. I feel that they were definitely competent enough to head line and they have the crowd/sales/experience/blah blah blah to handle the top slot but if you're only up for a 50 minute set and have 5 albums of music then by all means ditch the big ole' drum solo. To be able to watch Shannon Larkin well on his kit the way he does is solo enough. I'm sure that there are many repeat customers to the show of Godsmack and if there are any "noobs" then giving them 50 solid minutes of freaking awesome is good enough to have them come back to a "Full Godsmack Show"!

Godsmack is a great show. I highly encourage all to see it. But beware, there might be 10 minutes of the same wank off on 2 kits between Sully(vocals, guitars) & the ever amazing Shannon Larkin(drums). If it is a first time for you to see them and you want just music then wait for a headline show from them. If you are looking for soloing half of the show then seeing them at any time is a good time to see them.
